Dr. Jennifer Beatty, DO, FACS

Jennifer F. Beatty, DO, FACS, became interested in breast diagnosis and treatment while a Lieutenant Commander serving the US Navy as a general surgeon and was Director of the Breast Clinic at the Charleston Naval Hospital from 2005-2009.  In 2007 she served in Iraq as a Marine Corps Forward with a Surgical Shock Trauma Unit. After returning to the States in 2007, Charleston became her home.

Dr. Beatty attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience then completed her residency at Ohio University and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  Dr. Beatty is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, is certified in oncoplastic surgery and Hidden Scar™, and is certified in laser treatments.
She currently has privileges at Roper Hospital, Roper St. Francis, Roper Mt Pleasant, East Cooper Regional Medical Center, and the Trident Health System (including Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center). She is licensed in South Carolina and is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and American Society of Breast Disease.

Dr. Beatty fulfilled her vision of a surgical practice devoted to breast cancer research, treatment and education by opening The Breast Place in 2011.  In 2019 Dr. Beatty realized that so much energy was placed in the treatment of disease that survivorship was not addressed. Dr. Beatty is excited to introduce Empower - An Aesthetic and Wellness clinic at The Breast Place offering scar revision, facial rejuvenation, IV therapy, and body contouring/noninvasive fat removal to give women of the Lowcountry hope for moving past a diagnosis using the latest laser and infrared technologies and skin care products available.

She is a tireless advocate who was the catalyst in changing the state Medicaid policy for gender-based breast cancer coverage after Raymond Johnson, a then 26-year-old male breast cancer patient was denied coverage for treatment based on gender. Because of her deep passion to educate about the importance of breast health, she volunteers her time to perform advanced breast evaluations and surgeries for the Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic. Her position as a surgeon and as a pillar in the community has provided her with the opportunity to assist in navigating patients to free care and emotional support through her relationships with nonprofit organizations that focus on breast cancer survivorship in the Lowcountry. Dr. Beatty provides free breast services to patients of the Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic. She serves on the American Cancer Society Board of Executive Leadership Council and is dedicated to not only providing medical care but assistance for patients who are in need. Dr. Beatty’s commitment to staying on top of cutting-edge breast cancer research and treatment options is shown through her manuscript publication in Annals of Surgical Oncology, volume 21(10). Dr. Beatty is the lead surgeon for a current study with Agendia and will be presenting her research at the Miami Breast Symposium in March 2020.

Meet Megan, the newest addition to our provider team! Hailing originally from Michigan, Megan received her Bachelor's of Science from the University of Tampa before joining an OBGYN practice where she cultivated a passion for women’s health. She came to Charleston to pursue a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Charleston Southern University. While finishing her coursework, she chose The Breast Place as her elective clinical rotation where she met the team and our patients. She was so impressive during that rotation that we could not let her go anywhere else!

Megan graduated with honors in December 2020 and started working full time at TBP immediately following graduation. Megan is a member of the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for Physician Assistants, the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and the South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants. She has been an amazing addition to the breast clinic. She will soon be performing aesthetic procedures as well for Empower, the wellness clinic at The Breast Place.

In her spare time, Megan enjoys the beaches of Charleston, spending time with friends, and paddle boarding.
