Lowcountry Women Get Much Needed Mammograms
For Immediate release- Many know that early detection of breast cancer can save lives, but for some women the cost of a mammogram is still too high. Thanks to a grant from the Lowcountry affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, some women from Johns Island, James Island and Wadmalaw will receive mammograms and breast health care at no cost.
The Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic is a recent recipient of a grant in the amount of $33,943.50. Dr. Jenn Beatty of The Breast Place is a volunteer physician with this medical clinic, and helps to care for these women by reviewing abnormal breast reports and recommending a plan of care. She states, Because of this grant, the clinic can provide the comprehensive care a woman facing a breast health issue needs. This grant will help us to serve around 200 local women that may otherwise not have been treated.
States Wanda Lefler-Weart of the Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic, The staff at the Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic is excited about this grant and we are most appreciative of Dr. Beatty's contributions to women and their families. It does take all of us to demonstrate that all women are worthy of care.
